3-night weekend in Rome with extension to the Roman Castles, hotel, guided tours and transfers included

Experience the centuries-old history of Rome in a weekend, guided tour with priority entrance to the Colosseum. A journey from Classical Rome to the Renaissance, passing through the most significant places of Christianity with a professional guide. Optional extension to the Roman Castles with a visit to a winery and wine tasting in the cellar with the producer.

13:00 - 23:00

Arrival in Rome

  • Arrival in Rome by car / train / plane. Optional (not included): transfer from airport / station.

Accommodation in Best Western Plus Universo 4 **** hotel or similar in the central city, well connected by metro, between Via Cavour and Termini Station, its position allows reaching the main attraction by walk.

  • Afternoon free for individual visits.
19:30 - 22:30

Optional (not included): tasting dinner

  • Dinner in a characteristic restaurant in the ancient Trastevere district.
09:00 - 13:00

Guided tour of the Colosseum and Imperial Forums

  • Breakfast at the hotel, meeting with the guide and visit to the largest archaeological area in the world: the Colosseum, the Imperial Forums and Mount Palatine (skip-the-line tickets included).

We will trample the places dating back to the founding of Rome up to the imperial age. Among the other historical legacies of the route: the Arch of Constantine, the Arch of Titus, the Capanne Rotulee, the House of Livia, the House of Augustus, the Cryptoporticus of Nero and the Palace of Domitian.

Lunch free (not included).

14:30 - 16:30

Historic Center

  • We will continue the visit with Piazza della Rotonda, dominated by the presence of the Pantheon with the Renaissance fountain in the center (1575).
  • We will then move on to visit the Trevi Fountain until we reach the Spanish Steps.
  • End of the tour and individual return to the hotel.

The Basilicas of Rome with guide

  • Breakfast at the hotel, meeting with the guide for a morning dedicated to visiting the four Papal Basilicas and their masterpieces.

We will tell the story, the traditions and the special privileges they enjoy, admiring the precious masterpieces inside.

The first will be the Basilica of St. Peter built between 1506 and 1626, followed by a visit to St. John in Lateran, the ancient seat of the papacy, then St. Paul outside the walls and St. Mary Major which preserves paleo Christian mosaics dating back to the 5th century.

  • Lunch free (not included).
  • Afternoon free for individual visits.
14:30 - 16:30

Optional (not included): Borghese Gallery

  • In the afternoon it is possible to customize the tour with a visit to the Borghese Gallery (includes entrance and guide in Italian).

A tour that will leave us amazed, between classical antiquities and works by the most important Renaissance artists. It can be considered unique in the world as regards to the number and importance of Bernini’s sculptures and Caravaggio’s canvases

With extension to the Roman Castles (1 or 2 nights)

  • Breakfast, check-out and transfer to Frascati. Meet with the guide and start of tour.

We will stroll through the streets of one of the most renowned municipalities of the Roman Castles, famous for the various Tuscolan villas, once home to illustrious patrician families. The town is also known for the cathedral of St. Peter in neo-Renaissance baroque style and the church of Jesus “Gesù “ built in the eighteenth century by the genius of Carlo Fontana.

  • In the late morning we will move to a local winery.

With a visit the old farmhouse surrounded by nature, vineyards and olive groves. In this area vines have been cultivated since Roman times, it is possible to visit ancient caves where wine has been aged for millennia. We will talk about the techniques of working the vine and the winemaking processes.

  • Time to taste the famous Frascati wine!

We will guide you through a tasting of three locally produced wines, including the famous white wine Frascati Superiore DOCG. To following lunch will be served, consisting of an appetizer and a first course of the Roman tradition.

  • At the end of the visit, transfer to Villa Mercede 4 ****  hotel or similar in the central city, near the train station that allows reaching by walk the center of Frascati and accommodation in the assigned rooms.
  • Rest of the afternoon free, overnight stay.

Historical buildings

With 1 night extension

  • Breakfast, check-out and end of services. Optional (not included) transfer to the station / airport.

With 2 night extension

  • Breakfast, meet with the guide and tour of the historic buildings.
  • We will move to Castel Gandolfo, a delightful town overlooking Lake Albano, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, known for the presence of the Papal Palace, the pope’s summer residence.
  • Visit of the ancient city center with the Apostolic Palace, the Pontifical Villas and the beautiful gardens.

A journey that will tell us the history of the papacy from the seventeenth century to the Lateran Pacts, from the stay of John Paul II and Benedict XVI to the transformation into a museum by Pope Francis. This will be followed by a walk in the manicured gardens of the Parco delle Ville Pontificie with the remains of the ancient Roman villa.

  • At the end of the tour, continue to Ariccia.
  • Visit to Palazzo Chigi and the annexed gardens.

The seventeenth-century palace was designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini who was also entrusted with the task of following the expansion and embellishment of the gardens in which archaeological finds are still found today. The majesty of the building and the natural beauty that surrounds it made it a destination for the Grand Tour.

  • Lunch in a characteristic “Fraschetta” restaurant in Ariccia, return to the hotel and free afternoon.
14:30 - 18:30

Optional (not included): traces of Ancient Rome

  • Upon request, it is possible to book an afternoon visit.

An itinerary among the archaeological remains of antiquity present in the cities gathered between Lake Albano and Lake Nemi.

  • Visit of Albano Laziale and the Cisternoni, following an underground path in the cisterns of the aqueduct which in Roman times ensured the water services to the Parthian Legion.
  • We will continue with a visit to the ancient mausoleum of the Horatii and Curiatii.
  • Free time for a walk in the city center, transfer to Nemi.
  • Entrance to the Museum of Roman Ships dating back to the time of the Roman Emperor Caligula.
  • Visit of the characteristic village of Nemi.
  • Return to the hotel, free dinner and overnight stay.
