Accommodation in Best Western Plus Universo 4 **** hotel or similar in the central city, well connected by metro, between Via Cavour and Termini Station, its position allows reaching the main attraction by walk.

Vatican Museums

• Breakfast, meet with the guide and morning dedicated to visiting the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Various works are collected in the Vatican museums that span the ancient and contemporary ages. Sarcophagi and mosaics share the space with masterpieces by great masters such as Giotto, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael up to Dalì, Canova and Matisse.

• In the midst of so much beauty, the presence of a fragment of lunar rock donated to Vatican citizens by former American president Nixon continues to amaze. The tour ends in the Sistine Chapel where it is possible to admire the famous frescoes of the representation of the Last Judgment.

Colosseum

• The afternoon will be dedicated to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.

A walk in the largest archaeological area in the world, a journey from the places of the foundation of Rome to the imperial age.

• We will also see the Arch of Constantine, the Arch of Titus, the Rotulean Huts, the House of Livia, the House of Augustus, the Cryptoporticus of Nero and the Palace of Domitian. Return to the hotel, overnight.

Guided tour of the historic center of Frascati

Extension to the Roman castles (1 extra night)

• Breakfast, check-out and transfer to Frascati.

Meet with the guide for the tour of one of the most renowned municipalities of the Roman Castles famous for several Tuscolan villas once home to illustrious patrician families. The town is also often remembered for the Neo-Renaissance Baroque cathedral of St Peter and the church of Gesù built in the eighteenth century by the genius of Carlo Fontana.

• In the late morning, we will move to a local winery.

With a visit to the old farmhouse surrounded by nature, vineyards and olive groves. In this area vines have been cultivated since Roman times, it is possible to visit ancient caves where wine has been aged for millennia. We will talk about the techniques of working the vine and the winemaking processes.

Optional (not included) Tuscolan Villas and San Nilo Abbey

• Transfer to Villa Mondragone (Frascati), the largest of the Tuscolan villas. It was the summer residence of the popes until 1626 when the new Pope Urban VIII moved it to Castel Gandolfo.

Visit of the interiors, including the marvelous Hall of the Svizzeri, the splendid Garden of the Girandola, the majestic Portico of Vasanzio and the Theatre of the Acque.

Continue to Grottaferrata, an elegant town in the Roman Castles and visit the Greek Abbey of San Nilo. The Abbey was founded in 1004 and is currently the last of the Byzantine rite monasteries in Italy.

• Walk through the streets of the ancient village of Nemi, the smallest town among the Castelli Romani dating back to Roman times.

Colorful, surrounded by nature and with a unique view of the lake of the same name, it offers noteworthy landscape views. Includes transfers, free visit.
